The Story:

In a small home in Addis Ababa lives Tigist Tsegaye and her three daughters. Tigist is completely paralyzed from the waist down. She cannot move, turn over in bed, or go to the toilet by herself. Every single day she depends on the kindness of others just to survive.

Years ago, her husband abandoned the family. Since then, there has been no income and no one who can work. The family survives only through a local welfare organization and a community volunteer who comes when she is able, but she cannot come every day.

Because of this, 13-year-old Yeabsira stays home from school most days to care for her mother. Her older sisters Kalmida and Hana are excellent students preparing for university entrance exams, despite extreme poverty and their mother's suffering.

A Mother's Silent Strength

Tigist lies in bed day after day, unable to move. Her greatest pain is watching her youngest daughter miss school to care for her, while her older daughters study under such difficult conditions. When the volunteer cannot come, the burden falls entirely on Yeabsira.
